SOME COMMODITIES ARE NOT ALLOWED TO IMPORT
The Nigerian government has decided to ban imports on 41 new products to protect nigerian producers from competition. Previously following commodities were not allowed: tooth picks, table drinks, table drinking water, biscuits, spaghetti & noodles. Now following commodities are not allowed to be shipped to Nigeria (both Lagos and Port Harcourt): tooth picks, table drinks, table drinking water, biscuits, spaghetti & noodles. Now following commodities are not allowed to be shipped to Nigeria (both Lagos and Port Harcourt): textiles, furniture, fresh fruits, plastic materials, men's footwear in leather, leather bags, beef and beef products, pork and pork products, soap and detergents, assembled bicycles, plastic flowers, fresh flowers, cutlasses, axes, pick axes, spades, shovels, wheel barrows, mutton, lamb, goat meat, toothpaste, pencils, ball point pens, plastic products including plates, knives, forks, spoons, cups, buckets, bowls, bins, containers and hangers, vegetable oil, barite, bentonite.
This ban is not with immediate effect, a grace of 90 days beginning from January 8th, 2004 has been granted by te government to complete all ongoing transactions.
