In accordance with the IPPC, the Nigerian authorities have decided that as from October 1st ALL solid wood packing materials and other plant packing materials entering Nigeria (Lagos as well as Port Harcourt) MUST BE heat-treated or fumigated and the type of treatment should be stated on the phytosanitary certificate. Non-compliance will result in delays in customs clearance, possible destruction of the packaging material or even re-exportation of the cargo, everything at shipper’s expense.
Shippers must therefore be aware that they have to fumigate these type of packing materials and that they have to send the original fumigation and phytosanitary certificates to the cnee to enable him to clear his cargo.
We wish to remind you also that CRI number is still compulsory for Nigeria for all cargoes except for personal effects, United Nations cargo, diplomatic cargo, and for Port Harcourt the cargo destined for some projects in the free zone is also exempt.
For personal effects we require a detailed packing list of the cargo together with full style of the cnee with a physical address (no PO-Box number !!) and phone number without which we can not accept to load the cargo.
