Personal Effects

This information submitted to NZ customs MUST be 100% accurate. No exceptions are given for NEW goods, items of alcohol/cigarettes or similar products for PERSONAL USE. The reality is that these goods will be dutiable, and WITHOUT exception NZ Customs department WILL prosecute the importers directly as they are illegally imported

Correct information. We are now seeing approximately 1 prosecution from NZ Customs in every 3-4 personal effect shipments to NZL. Your personal effect customers assume that they can fool NZ Customs on shipments. Please understand now EVERY SINGLE PERSONAL EFFECT SHIPMENT IS INSPECTED ON ARRIVAL. There cannot be any commercial cargo (for resale), any dutiable cargo (alcohol, cigarettes), any potential quarantine cargo (food, meat, drinks), as NZ Customs and NZ Quarantine will not allow the import of these goods. If a person wants to import these, they must make suitable declarations, or consequently face the consequences. (There are exceptions for items such as Wine Collections (with Considerable proof), and small amounts of medical goods (however this is very very very difficult to prove and 90% of people claiming medical goods fail in proving this matter)

This is our second notice of this. We are being given heavy criticism from Asian offices for not assisting p/e importers, however we cannot assist when they are not telling the truth, or making a lawful declaration, consequently most of these people are now facing fines, confiscation of goods, and CAN face loss of visa's, imprisonment or deportation.

We are most willing to assist p/effects importers with their shipments to NZL, we have Chinese speaking staff, in house customs, and all facilities available, however it is imperative that origin offices advise shippers NZ Customs is inspecting EVERY personal effect shipment.

However, we cannot assist importers that make fraudulent and incorrect declarations, as these people face the results of their own actions, and we receive many complaints that our office is not assisting. Once importer makes a customs declaration that is deemed incorrect, the resulting actions from NZ Customs & Quarantine are COMPLETELY the responsibility of the importers.
