Chilean Customs is seriously controlling all shipments in Chilean Ports, also on transshipments to Bolivia and they have now confirmed that no packages/bundles will be allowed to enter if they are not duly marked. These marks should also be mentioned on all house B/L's, in the SAME WAY as written on the packages/bundles. Otherwise, customs will declare this cargo as "SHORTLANDED/OVERLANDED" as customs will be enable to tell if cargo corresponds or not to a specific consignee.

In case cargo arrives unmarked, the consignee will have to check and recognize his cargo in the presence of a customs clerk. There is an option to apply "an appellation" to customs if cargo corresponds to consignee and most probably avoid to a pay customs fine but only in the case cargo corresponds to the specified consignee. This does not apply, for example, if cargo is sent to Chile by mistake.

If fines occur, we have no other alternative than to bill these back to shippers. The expenses for fines are fixed by customs at USD 80.00 for legal appeal and USD 35.00 for intervention (total USD 115.00).

So, it is compulsory to put marks on the cargo corresponding with the marks shown on the house b/l.
